South Africa’s NGO SOS Coalition is leading a campaign to stop the switch-off of analogue signals.
While the government is rushing to make the switch to DTT a reality, this step, the final one in the migration process, is sparking a real debate. For SOS Coalition, it constitutes an attack on the population's constitutional right to information.
The NGO has been touring radio stations and podcasts for two weeks to explain that the number of South Africans still using analogue television is too high to stop the signals on 31 December as planned by the authorities.
The government, however, wants to free up the frequencies used by analogue television.
