Imo State partners with Glo to accelerate digital infrastructure development

28 November 2025

Imo State has officially entered into an agreement with Glo to fast-track the deployment of digital infrastructure across the region.

Announced by local authorities, the initiative aims to modernise the state's telecommunications network, expand internet access, and bridge the connectivity gap between urban and rural communities.

The partnership entails installing new transmission equipment, enhancing existing network capacity, and extending broadband coverage to underserved areas. The primary objective is to improve internet quality to support critical needs such as online education, digital public services, e-commerce, and small business operations, fostering broader social and economic development.

Glo highlighted that its Glo-1 submarine cable, which provides a direct connection from Nigeria to Europe via a private international fibre optic network, will serve as the core infrastructure for this ambitious project. The company emphasized that the Glo-1 network offers superior bandwidth capacity, low latency, and highly secure connections — features vital for supporting the government’s digital transformation initiatives and enhancing the efficiency of public services.

Through this partnership, Imo State aims to position itself as a hub for connectivity and digital services, aligning with a development strategy centred on innovation and digital integration. Local officials see this as the beginning of a broader effort to make the state a leader in Nigeria’s digital economy, responding to the increasing demand for reliable broadband services across the region.
