Liberia introduces new quality standards for MNOs

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has introduced new quality regulations for mobile network operators to guarantee better quality services to consumers.

The regulations require telecom operators to promptly address consumer complaints and restore lost data and minutes when networks fail through no fault of the consumer. The latter is also called upon to carefully read the conditions of the contracts before accepting them. This LTA initiative aims to strengthen the protection of Liberian telecom consumers.

Cameroon hosts crisis talks after cable cuts

The minister of posts and telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, has chaired a crisis meeting with telecom operators active in Cameroon. On the agenda, there were the incidents that occurred on certain submarine cables serving Africa which have disrupted Internet access in several African countries since the morning of 14 March.

During the meeting, emergency measures were prescribed to operators by Libom Li Likeng to reduce the impact of these incidents on internet access.

Mobilise launches Tier 5 MVNE services

Mobilise has launched Tier 5 MVNE services to cater to this burgeoning market segment in Nigeria.

There are more than 200 million mobile users in Nigeria, with the market currently valued at US$9.09 billion and projected to reach US$11.43 billion by 2029. In 2023, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued more than 30 MVNO licences.

Paratus metro fibre network roll out in Zambia complete

Paratus Zambia has completed its metro fibre network in partnership with Meta.

Paratus Zambia, a subsidiary of the pan-African network operator Paratus Group, began the project in the fourth quarter of 2022 to construct a 700km open access metro fibre network which will improve high-quality connectivity in under-served communities in ten Zambian cities and towns. With this newly built fibre network, Paratus will leverage the fibre cores and provide reliable, high-capacity last mile connectivity to its clients.
