Gambia Research and Education Network launched

18 September 2023

The government has launched the Gambia Research and Education Network (GAMREN). The initiative is supported by the World Bank and aims to provide high-speed internet connectivity to academies and research institutions in the country.

This initiative is part of the efforts undertaken by the Gambian government towards the digital transformation of the national education system.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology initiated work to develop a national strategy for the digitization of TVET (technical and vocational education and training) last year with the support of UNESCO.

According to Pierre Gomez, minister of higher education, research, science and technology, GAMREN should promote collaboration, sharing of research results, access to online resources and innovation.
