Zambia to phase out 2G/3G

13 December 2023

Zambia’s new communications strategy has established 4G internet as a standard, and will see the conclusion of the country's removal of 2G and 3G networks, according to Felix Mutati, minister of science and technology.

"We're getting rid of 2G. We want all towers to have internet access," said Mutati. "Every tower from now on will only be 4G and upwards internet enabled."

The development is in line with the government's commitment to president Haikande Hichilema's determination to use ICT as a catalyst to better Zambians' lives.
