IHS Cameroon has committed to build 10 digital kiosks in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon by 2025, with five in each region.
The initiative, ‘Tower Kiosk by IHS Cameroon,’ was launched recently with the deployment of three of the 10 kiosks in the localities of Idenau, Santa and Tombel.
The kiosks are 20-foot specialised containers powered by the nearby towers' hybrid systems, and they include charging stations, computers with internet access, printers, and other digital devices.
In addition to free internet access, the kiosks will offer e-commerce, e-education, e-health, and e-governance services to assist local businesses and entrepreneurs.
The 'Tower Kiosk by IHS Cameroon' will be run in collaboration with local non-governmental organisations, with each intended to reach out to at least 5,000 community people.
“We hope the ‘Tower Kiosk by IHS Cameroon’ initiative will provide the infrastructure for people to access online resources and better engage in public life,” said Olufemi Arosanyin, CEO of IHS Cameroon.
“Significant progress has been made in these regions to restore public life, and we are excited to see the ‘Tower Kisok by IHS Cameroon’ initiative begin. This initiative comes at the right time, as we continue to work to resolve this conflict and return to peace,” said Joseph Dion Ngute, prime minister of Cameroon.
