Airtel Money and MTN Mobile Money create APEP in Congo

Airtel Money and MTN Mobile Money have created the Professional Association of Payment Institutions (APEP) in Congo.

Its objective is to defend their interests and promote better digital payment services for the benefit of populations. The main missions are to represent the collective interests of payment institutions to the government; to keep the public informed of trends, to carry out projects of common interest; to ensure the proper functioning of payment and settlement systems; and to modernize payment systems.

This initiative is part of MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money's desire to comply with new directives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The department required that the various establishments which operate under its supervision come together into associations to facilitate regulation.

“These companies can create other services or merge their services with those of banks to facilitate transactions and allow users to save money while saving time. It is truly the realization of financial inclusion since it is advantageous not only for the State, but also for customers and companies,” said Jean Pierre Nonault, general director of financial institutions.
