One essential network capability is Quality of Service, Priority and Pre-emption – more commonly referred to QPP. Mission-critical mobile broadband networks need to implement QPP mechanisms to enable mission-critical services, securing mission-critical users’ operations and communications by giving them priority over non-mission-critical users/traffic in time of need, when both are sharing the same network.
Quality of Service is a network capability representing a measurement of the overall service performance in the network. Priority is a network capability that gives an indication of the importance of the user or a service in the network. Pre-emption is a network capability that permits taking over resources from low priority users or resources. In short, QPP enables the efficient use of network resources in shared scenarios and ensures that mission-critical users are prioritised when needed over consumer users.
On 20 November at 15.00 GMT, representatives from TCCA members AT&T, the UK Home Office and Ericsson will present a webinar covering key points from TCCA’s QPP Implementation Guide published earlier this year.
Taking headline points from the QPP Implementation Guide (QIG), the webinar aims to inform about the available 3GPP mechanisms and to provide common industry technical recommendations on how to implement QPP in mission critical mobile broadband networks.
The target audience is:
- Commercial mobile network operators/communication service providers (CSPs) and mission critical (public safety, defence, …) CSPs planning, or in the process of deploying, 3GPP mission-critical mobile broadband networks and seeking to benefit from QPP industry-wide best practices;
- End users, government agencies/authorities and policy makers looking for information about QPP implementation mechanisms and recommendations on how best to deploy these in order to provide the expected mission critical communication services;
- Telecommunication equipment providers committed to implementing 3GPP standardised QPP features and functionality in their product offerings.
- The quality and behaviour of the network is crucial to delivering trusted, mission-critical services to first responders – and their work is crucial in protecting all of us.
