Madagascar launches free Wi-Fi initiative in universities to boost digital access

22 December 2025

Madagascar's Ministry of Development of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy (MNDPT) has entered into a partnership with YAS to establish free Wi-Fi and hotspots across university campuses nationwide.

Supported by AXIAN Telecom, the initiative aims to improve digital access for students and expand opportunities for online learning and remote education.

The signing ceremony was attended by Minister ANDRIAMAMPIADANA Mahefa, General Director of YAS Benoît Janin, and AXIAN Telecom’s General Manager Hassan Jaber. The project will see the deployment of campus-wide Wi-Fi networks, enabling students to access digital resources, participate in online classes, and benefit from improved connectivity for their academic pursuits.

This effort aligns with the government’s broader commitment to making internet access a key tool for empowering Madagascar’s youth and fostering the country’s digital transformation. By strengthening collaboration with the private sector, the initiative aims to create a more inclusive educational environment and equip students with the tools necessary for success in an increasingly digital world.
