The Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airtel Seychelles and Cable & Wireless. The latter will set up a system to alert populations via SMS in the event of natural disasters..png?lu=939)
The alert system via SMS replaces a previous system based mainly on alerts via the media.
“It is important for us to be able to disseminate these alerts as quickly as possible so that people can protect themselves and their property,” said Vincent Amelie, director general of the SMA.
Alerts via SMS are expected to significantly reduce the loss of material and human lives due to natural disasters in the Seychelles. This new system promises to be more efficient, especially given the high penetration of mobile services in the country.
