Safaricom has extended coverage of its 5G mobile network to 28 towns in 21 counties in Kenya. The company has also introduced 5G packages to ease adoption of its ultra-broadband services.
Safaricom launched commercial 5G in Kenya in October 2022, becoming the first mobile operator to launch the technology in the country. The company had 35 active 5G sites at the time spread across Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega and Mombasa and planned to scale to 200 sites nationwide by March 2023. By the end of 2022, it had registered 299,904 5G mobile data subscription2.
