2Africa subsea cable lands in Port Said

Telecom Egypt has announced the landing of the 2Africa subsea cable in Port Said, which will enhance connectivity in Egypt.

CEO and managing director Mohamed Nasr said this is the “final milestone in linking the world’s longest subsea cable to Egypt. We aim to realise more of our potential as we work on new initiatives and roll out cutting-edge products that will take the ICT industry to the next level.”

This is the second and final 2Africa subsea cable to be connected to Egypt. The 2Africa cable was launched in May 2020 by a consortium of companies - Telecom Egypt, Meta, China Mobile International, MTN GlobalConnect, Orange, Center3 (STC), Vodafone and WIOCC. Alcatel Submarine Networks was contracted to build the cable which starts from Southern Europe, across Africa and the Middle East and ends in the UK.

The cable system is expected to be completed in 2024 and will stretch 45,000km connecting 33 countries through 46 landings.
