Starlink launches services in Malawi

31 July 2023

Starlink’s services are now available in Malawi. It is the fifth African country after Nigeria, Rwanda, Mozambique, and Kenya to benefit from the commercial satellite services.

The service costs 52,000 Malawian kwachas per month, plus 655,000 Malawian kwachas for hardware. Starlink gained approval from Malawian authorities in October 2022 to launch its services in the country as part of its expansion on the African continent.

SpaceX aims to bring broadband everywhere on the planet, including remote and landlocked areas, which are therefore difficult to access for the terrestrial networks of mobile operators. According to the established launch schedule, 23 African countries should receive Starlink services before the end of this year.
