Tunisia works on connecting schools

30 October 2023

The Tunisian government has begun implementing a program that will connect 3,300 schools to high-speed internet during the 2023-2024 school year.

Nizar Ben Néji, minister of communication technologies, had earlier announced a project to connect 3,307 schools to high-speed internet via optical fibre. The implementation should be spread over a period of 18 months and cost 132 million dinars. It is financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The initiative is part of the Tunisian government's ‘a modern school above every hill’ program which aims to digitize the entire national education system. The executive is also working on the establishment of an innovative digital platform called ‘the school of Tunisia of the future’ to promote teaching methods and promote students' access to knowledge via the internet.
