The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has authorized Lonestar Cell MTN to block fraudulent numbers used for identity theft and solicitation of funds.
The initiative is part of the actions planned by the LTA to track down perpetrators of fraud via telecom networks across Liberia. It follows a complaint filed by Amin Modad, minister of commerce, who reported the unauthorized use of his name to solicit funds from individuals across the country.
Alongside accelerated digital transformation, there has also been an increase in cases of fraud using these services.
