A section of Niger Telecoms’ fibre optic cable connecting the cities of Niamey and Dosso has been damaged, attributed to the heavy rains currently being experienced in the country, as well as the floods that have followed.
This interruption could affect telephone and internet services; however, the current weather conditions prevent any immediate technical intervention for security reasons. This is the fourth section of cable detected on the Niger Telecoms network due to bad weather in the space of two weeks. The operator announced similar cuts in early August on the Niamey-Tillabéri, Niamey-Balleyara and Konni-Madaoua fibre optic axes.
