Vodacom intends to make the mobile virtual network (MVNO) an asset for its future growth, announcing plans to extend this service to all the markets in which it operates on the continent.
“We provide our MVNO partners with telecommunications platforms and tools to successfully run an MVNO without significant upfront investments. In the future, we will look to expand our MVNOs to reach all the other markets in which we operate. This will obviously depend on the specific MVNO strategy and Vodacom’s market readiness for the future,” said Shenge Buthelezi, Managing Director, Wholesale at Vodacom.
The move comes weeks after Vodacom launched its MVNO platform. While it has lagged in this space, with competitors Cell C and MTN introducing their own platforms in 2006 and 2020, it nonetheless sees a strategic advantage in engaging in it.
