Vodacom Tanzania expands capacity in Zanzibar

07 March 2025

Vodacom Tanzania has announced a significant upgrade to its infrastructure with the addition of 10GB of capacity aimed at improving the quality of voice and internet services across the Zanzibar archipelago.

This enhancement will leverage the government-owned fibre optic infrastructure and submarine cables, enhancing connectivity across the islands. The agreement was signed last week with the Zanzibar Communication Corporation (ZICTIA), marking a critical step toward fostering digital transformation in Zanzibar.

"This development is not just about ensuring faster internet speeds; it is aimed at empowering local businesses, enhancing e-government services, supporting e-learning initiatives, and much more," said Vodacom Tanzania in a statement.

The additional capacity will enable Vodacom Group’s Tanzanian subsidiary to better serve its existing subscribers in Zanzibar while also expanding its customer base, thereby strengthening its position in the competitive domestic market.
