The move signals the country’s readiness to roll out advanced mobile connectivity, with three licenses available exclusively to existing mobile network operators, namely Mobilis, Djezzy, and Ooredoo.
According to ARPCE’s official statement, the objective is to kickstart commercial 5G operations across Algeria while maintaining a level playing field among the major players. The regulator emphasized its commitment to overseeing the rollout to ensure market stability, uphold service quality, and meet the increasing demand for high-speed internet.
Operators interested in participating are required to obtain tender documents from ARPCE’s headquarters, with a fee of 1 million Algerian dinars payable via bank transfer to the authority’s account.
This development follows remarks by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, who last April indicated that technical preparations for 5G deployment are progressing, with plans to introduce the technology in the second half of 2025. Notably, Mobilis, which holds a dominant 43.70% market share in Algeria’s mobile sector, has already conducted successful 5G tests at its headquarters in Algiers, signalling its readiness for broader deployment.
The introduction of 5G is expected to transform various sectors such as healthcare, industry, logistics, and education, fostering innovation and supporting Algeria's broader digital transformation goals. The regulator has announced that the results of the licensing process should be unveiled in the coming weeks, providing clarity on the conditions for market entry, coverage obligations, investment commitments, and service quality standards for the operators involved.
