This milestone marks a significant step in expanding regional and global connectivity, supporting the growing demand for high-capacity and resilient telecommunications infrastructure.
The company facilitated the connection between these two coastal points by establishing diverse terrestrial crossing routes, ensuring enhanced redundancy and resilience. With the completion of these landings, the 21,700 km SEA-ME-WE-6 system has fully connected Egypt’s territory, advancing its role as a critical hub linking Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Part of the larger SEA-ME-WE family, the sixth edition of this cable system links Singapore to France via 17 landing points across Asia, Africa, and Europe. It is a vital component of global network infrastructure, with a consortium of 16 major providers — including Telecom Egypt, BEYON B.S.C, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC, Bharti Airtel, China Unicom, Dhiraagu, Djibouti Telecom, Microsoft, Mobily, Orange, PCCW, Singtel, Sri Lanka Telecom, Telekom Malaysia, Telin, and Trans World Associates.
“These two landings enable the connection between the Red Sea and Mediterranean segments of the cable via two diversified, unique terrestrial routes. Over the years, the Eurasia route between Southeast Asia and Europe has proven its importance, and we are committed to developing additional routes to increase capacity, diversity, and resilience. These milestones underpin our dedication to enabling countries across the region and beyond to realize their digital ambitions through a robust, future-ready network,” said Mohamed Nasr, MD and CEO of Telecom Egypt.
“From engineering design to route planning, manufacturing, and installation, SubCom has played a vital role in bringing SEA-ME-WE-6 to life. We look forward to reaching the next milestones as this extensive project progresses towards full deployment, strengthening global connectivity and supporting the digital economy,” said David Coughlan, President and CEO of SubCom.
