Jean-Philippe Anvam, representing the Monegasque company, recently met with President Félix Tshisekedi to discuss the progress of the project. Anvam was accompanied by Augustin Kibassa Maliba, Minister of the Digital Economy, and José Mpanda, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications. He emphasized that the satellite project is designed to bridge the country’s digital divide by facilitating access to high-speed internet, especially in rural and isolated regions where existing telecommunications infrastructure remains inadequate.
This development follows a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2024 between the Congolese government and Monacosat, signalling a formal partnership to deploy satellite technology. Satellite solutions are increasingly popular across Africa for their ability to provide extensive coverage, even in hard-to-reach areas where traditional telecom networks struggle to operate effectively.
The project’s potential to improve connectivity is significant; however, details regarding the current status of the Monacosat initiative, including financial arrangements, technical implementation, timelines, and governance structures, remain undisclosed. The uncertainties highlight the early stage of the project and the need for clarity on how it will be executed.
