The proposed collaboration aligns with Ethio telecom’s ambitious ‘Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028’ strategy, reinforcing the company’s commitment to harmonizing rapid technological expansion with sustainable, climate-resilient infrastructure development that meets global environmental standards.
During the discussion, the CEO emphasised that the telecommunications sector is inherently energy-intensive, noting that the ongoing expansion of 4G, 5G, and advanced data center infrastructure requires a robust and climate-resilient power backbone capable of ensuring efficient and uninterrupted network operations across Ethiopia’s diverse geographic landscapes, including remote and underserved areas.
She further highlighted that prioritising energy efficiency and green power solutions is a key driver of operational excellence, cost optimisation, and long-term sustainability. This approach not only strengthens network reliability and service continuity but also enables the company to sustain affordable digital services for customers while actively contributing to the decarbonization of its operational footprint. The initiative builds on Ethio telecom’s ongoing deployment of solar-powered telecom sites and its broader green infrastructure programs across the country.
The Ascot Energy delegation presented a comprehensive technical framework featuring hybrid energy systems designed to maximize fuel efficiency, extend battery lifespan, and enhance operational resilience. These IoT-enabled solutions incorporate advanced monitoring, remote management, and security capabilities, enabling optimised capital utilization and reduced operational costs while supporting long-term sustainability across Ethio telecom’s nationwide deployment sites.
Ascot Energy’s leadership expressed strong appreciation for Ethio telecom’s forward-looking vision and proactive commitment to sustainable growth. They commended the company’s extensive infrastructure footprint, rapidly growing customer base, and the transformative impact of the telebirr ecosystem in accelerating Ethiopia’s digital economy and advancing financial inclusion.
Both organisations concluded the meeting with a shared commitment to establish a joint technical working team to further evaluate and align the proposed solutions with Ethio telecom’s operational and infrastructure requirements. The collaboration is also expected to explore innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms, reinforcing Ethiopia’s long-term journey toward a green, resilient, and digitally empowered future.
