Tunisie Télécom finalises implementation of national project of coverage of white areas

26 April 2022

Tunisie Télécom has completed the national project for broadband coverage of white areas, according to the north African country’s Ministry of Communication Technologies and Digital Economy. The announcement follows a working session on the subject, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry.

According to a statement, "this project is part of the implementation of the national strategy of digital transformation, which aims to strengthen the digital and social integration, reduce the digital divide between regions and achieve the principle of equal opportunity for all in equitable access to telecommunications networks". It has connected 94 white areas spread over 15 governorates. This includes 164 schools and 59 basic health centres.

Since 2014, Tunisie Télécom has made the extension of the telecom network in areas not covered, one of its priorities. The company has conducted several projects to connect white areas located in the border regions of Libya and Algeria.

The coverage of these white areas will bring high-speed telecom services to about 180,000 citizens, the operator said.
