Guinée Télécom public test trial commences

18 May 2023

The public test phase of the public telecommunications company Guinée Télécom has been launched, according to Gaoual Diallo, minister of posts, telecommunications and the digital economy.

Almost 10,000 SIM cards will be distributed to citizens to test the network that is now operational in Kaloum, Conakry.

The government has yet to announce whether the distribution of SIM cards will be managed by Guinée Télécom under the supervision of the government or if the responsibility will be entrusted to a private partner. The last word goes to Mamadi Doumbouya, president of the National Committee for Rally and Development (CNRD), who demanded detailed reports on these two strategic options.

The start of commercial activities of Guinée Télécom was initially planned for the first half of 2023, but this has now been delayed to at least 2024. The company must first carry out tests and operationalize all its telecom towers.
