DRC gains new IXP

30 May 2023

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is home to a new internet exchange point (IXP), Africa Congo Internet Exchange (ACIX). The infrastructure is the result of a collaboration between DE-CIX and the Digital Development Agency (ADN).

ACIX is the fourth IXP centre built on Congolese soil after those in Kinshasa (KINIX), Goma (GOMIX) and Lubumbashi (LUMIX). The construction of this infrastructure is part of DE-CIX's expansion strategy in Africa. The company plans to set up interconnection platforms in the DRC, Nigeria, and Libya. Then it will move from those first three countries to nine, including Cameroon, Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Niger, and Sudan.

ACIX should make it possible to improve the quality of internet services in the DRC and reduce costs.
