Africell Angola to double tower numbers in 2024

28 November 2023

Africell Angola plans to double the number of communication towers and expand its services to four new provinces in the country in 2024, according to Jorge Vasquez, new director general of the company.

This initiative is part of the strategy of gradual expansion of the Africell network in Angola. The company currently has 700 telecom towers and provides its services in four provinces - Luanda, Benguela, Huíla and Kwanza Sul. It plans to cover the provinces of Huambo and Namibe by the end of 2023, while Cabinda and Soyo (Zaire) should receive its signal during the first quarter of 2024. It is targeting national coverage for 2025.

Africell has announced that it deplores the ineffectiveness of sharing telecoms infrastructure, which is slowing down its expansion in Angola; just 5% of the telecom towers it uses are owned by other companies. The operator is open to sharing its future telecoms infrastructure with competitors to accelerate the development of the telecoms sector and contribute to the development of the country.

The extension of the telecoms network to four new provinces should allow Africell to reach thousands of additional subscribers and increase its market share.
