IHS Holdings tries to regain MTN Nigeria business

11 December 2023

IHS Holding has offered MTN Nigeria ‘better commercial terms’ for the lease of 2,500 telecom towers, after it recently lost the contract to American Tower Corporation (ATC), according to Reuters.

The measure aims to avoid any disruption to the network when switching from one telecoms infrastructure provider to another.

Last September, MTN Nigeria announced that it will begin leasing 2,500 network sites from ATC from 2025 upon the expiration of the current contract handled by IHS Nigeria Limited. The initiative is part of the company's actions to renegotiate tower agreements, focusing on securing terms that will help protect it from the volatility of its business environment. Through periodic reviews of its tower contracts, the company aims to improve efficiency and ensure optimal performance from suppliers.
