Telecom Egypt and NaiTel to construct Coral Bridge subsea cable

29 January 2024

Telecom Egypt has signed a partnership agreement with Jordan’s NaiTel to build a submarine fibre optic cable linking Egypt and Jordan, called ‘Coral Bridge.’

It aims to strengthen connectivity and meet the growing demand for AI and data centres.

The Coral Bridge submarine cable will extend into the Gulf of Aqaba to build a sea communications bridge connecting the Jordanian city of Aqaba to the Egyptian city of Taba.

This partnership agreement comes around three months after Telecom Egypt signed an agreement with 4iG to build a submarine fibre optic cable between Egypt and Albania. In September 2023, the company was awarded the contract to extend the Medusa cable from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. It also ensured Egypt's connection to Meta's 2Africa cable.
