Equitel, Finserve's mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), has announced the debut of its Kenyan 5G network in collaboration with host mobile network operator, Airtel.

Equitel has launched the 5G service in over 370 places nationally, including Mombasa, Nakuru, Nairobi, Athi River, Kisumu, Kakamega, Siaya, Eldoret, and Bungoma, among others. The 5G service will soon be expanded to densely populated regions such as residential neighbourhoods, shopping malls, and core business districts.

According to recent Communication Authority statistics, the number of 5G network users in Kenya climbed to 509,737 in the last three months, ending in September 2023. This represents a 13.3% increase, or 59,943 users, over the 449,794 recorded by the authority in June.

Equitel plans to entice users by offering a 100% bonus on 5G data bundles every Wednesday and Friday.
