The feasibility study will include an assessment of potential fibre optic routes across the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. It will also assess the expansion of fibre network infrastructure along the backbone and the extension of last mile connections to towers, businesses, and homes.
According to Eddie Irungu, CFO of CSquared Group, the initiative is part of the company's ambition to digitally connect Africa and make connectivity more accessible and affordable.’ In January 2024, the company launched a 350 km fibre optic backbone in Liberia, in partnership with the USAID.
