The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has announced the launch of a study to define and assess the country’s telecoms market, to identify potential barriers to competition to promote a better business environment.
The study will cover all essential elements of telecommunications, including fixed lines, mobile, broadband internet, tower markets and other related services.
“We will identify who are the major players in the market, what are their market shares, and examine various factors, including pricing strategies, to assess the potential for anti-competitive behaviour,” said Tilil Technologies Limited and Acacia Economics (PTY) Limited, the joint consultancy firm commissioned to conduct the study.
The UCC believes that the measures taken following this study will not only strengthen competition between existing market players but will facilitate the entry of new players.
