On 15 October, an internet outage plunged 4.18 million Chadian users into a digital blackout that lasted until 16 October. To find a solution to these recurring outages, the State is putting pressure on telecom operators.
Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina called for concrete actions to improve the quality of telecom services. He instructed the Minister of Communications to resolve these recurring problems. For its part, the Chadian Authority for the Regulation of Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) went further. The regulator asked telecommunications operators to take the necessary measures to compensate for the inconvenience suffered by consumers, by granting an internet capacity credit.
The recent internet outage is not an isolated event. Since the beginning of the year, Chad has suffered several internet interruptions in February, May, June and August.
"For some time, consumers have been abused by the poor quality of the communications network and particularly the untimely cuts in the Internet connection, which negatively impact the socio-professional and economic activities of the country," said the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement published on Facebook.
Chadian mobile phone operators are being called upon to find suitable solutions to meet their obligation to guarantee consumers uninterrupted Internet service, 24 hours a day.
