National Water Institute in Benin receives Starlink connectivity boost

The National Water Institute (INE) at the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin has received a substantial enhancement to its digital capabilities thanks to a donation from CoinEx Charity, which is providing Starlink satellite broadband connectivity. This initiative addresses the longstanding issue of limited internet access that has significantly hindered academic and research development at the institution.

As a vital training and research centre specializing in water resource management, INE has faced serious challenges due to inadequate digital infrastructure. These obstacles have restricted both students and staff from accessing essential knowledge and participating in international academic collaborations, ultimately hampering research efforts and educational growth.

The existing infrastructure at INE was not equipped to meet contemporary connectivity needs, making the introduction of Starlink technology a transformative solution. With high-speed internet access now available, the institute can significantly enhance its educational offerings and research capabilities.

The deployment of Starlink in Benin is part of the broader CoinEx Charity Starlink Program, which aims to provide free internet access to underserved regions globally through advanced satellite technology. This program not only focuses on connectivity but also strives to improve local livelihoods by distributing basic food and supplies to communities in need.

“This donation will greatly help the students of the Institut National de l'Eau to carry out their research and acquire skills in the digital sector, enabling them to keep abreast of new innovations in the water sector worldwide,” said a representative from CoinEx.

The introduction of Starlink satellite broadband is expected to revolutionize the way INE operates, allowing for better access to online resources, participation in virtual conferences, and collaboration with global experts in water management and related fields. With improved connectivity, students and staff can now engage more effectively in cutting-edge research and education, thus contributing to the advancement of water resource management in Benin and beyond.

This initiative exemplifies the power of technology in overcoming infrastructural barriers and enhancing educational opportunities in underserved regions. The partnership between CoinEx Charity and INE not only supports the institution’s immediate needs but also positions it to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape of the academic and research community.
