In a recent trade statement, company secretary Tatenda Ngowe revealed that the company has accelerated its shift towards a services-oriented model during the quarter ending 31 May.
Econet has been leveraging the combined strengths of its network infrastructure, financial platforms, and data-driven AI solutions to enhance operational efficiency. She highlighted that AI applications are now integral to the company's processes on its upgraded network, enabling a deeper understanding of customer needs and usage patterns. This insight allows Econet to offer highly personalised services tailored to individual users.
Recent network modernisation efforts have yielded positive results, with data traffic more than doubling in the quarter ending May and voice volumes rising by 44% compared to the same period last year. The company attributed this growth to sustained demand for connectivity and ongoing expansion of its digital ecosystems, reflecting a broader trend towards increased digital engagement among consumers.
Ngowe emphasised that the rising consumption of data underscores its vital role in shaping the future of telecommunications, presenting significant opportunities for long-term value creation. To support this growth, Econet has deployed 20 new sites and expanded its 5G coverage across Zimbabwe, reinforcing its commitment to providing advanced connectivity solutions.
