As part of its strategic plan, Glo intends to deploy new base stations in areas that are currently underserved or lack coverage altogether, while also bolstering connectivity in densely populated regions. The company has already installed thousands of 4G LTE stations since the start of the year and is actively activating hundreds more. The goal is to add over 1,000 new sites within the next twelve months to meet the rising demand for reliable mobile services.
In addition to network expansion, Glo is undertaking efforts to relocate its fibre optic infrastructure in locations affected by road construction damage. The operator is also focusing on sustainability by increasing the adoption of hybrid energy solutions, gradually reducing dependence on diesel generators in favour of battery-powered systems, thereby supporting environmental goals.
Industry experts, including the GSMA, emphasise that enhancing service quality and customer experience provides a significant competitive edge. It helps telecom firms retain existing subscribers and attract new ones, especially as Glo targets untapped markets in underserved areas. Such expansion could strengthen its market position in Nigeria, where competition remains intense.
