Huawei has that Ethio Telecom has successfully deployed its tri-band massive MIMO solution, claiming it has substantially enhanced the operator’s 4G network in terms of both performance and user experience. The deployment took place on a live site within Ethio Telecom’s existing network infrastructure.

According to Huawei, the deployment of its GigaAAU FDD tri-band Massive MIMO solution has led to a 70% increase in 4G traffic, alongside a 68% improvement in the average network speed experienced by users. These enhancements have translated into a better overall experience for activities such as video streaming, immersive online gaming, and rapid file downloads.

Huawei explained that its GigaAAU solution supports a transmit power of 720W and combines three frequency bands — 1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.6 GHz — into a single AAU. This integration allows a single deployment to support all three bands without the need for additional antennas, simplifying network infrastructure.

The solution employs intelligent beam scheduling and beamforming technologies to manage complex traffic and interference dynamically through adaptive beam movement and interference avoidance. Huawei claims that these features can increase individual user speeds by between 20% and 30%. Additionally, the GigaAAU offers energy-saving capabilities, reducing power consumption during off-peak periods to near zero, thereby enhancing overall energy efficiency.

This deployment marks a significant step forward in Ethio Telecom’s efforts to improve its 4G network services, leveraging advanced antenna technology to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity to its users.
