Paratus Group launches Namibia’s first private mobile network

04 September 2025

Paratus Group has announced the launch of Namibia’s first private mobile network utilizing LTE and 5G technologies.

This landmark development challenges existing state-owned telecommunications providers and coincides with Paratus Namibia’s 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of strategic investment and innovation in the country.

Paratus Namibia serves as the group's operational hub on the continent, leveraging its deep local expertise to drive innovation and expansion across Africa. Over the years, the company has pioneered extensive fibre infrastructure, satellite connectivity — including landing the Equiano subsea cable — and developed Tier 3 by-design data centres alongside comprehensive network services. Its recent investments include deploying a new mobile network, supported by Nokia as its mobile partner and Cerillion as the digital technology partner. This new platform replaces legacy systems, offering a seamless, fully digital customer experience integrated into a single, customer-centric platform.

Since 2018, Paratus has invested an unprecedented N$1.417 billion in network infrastructure across Namibia. In the past year alone, an additional N$600 million was allocated to establish the new mobile network — about one-third of which was dedicated to building a robust digital technology stack that consolidates all services into a unified ecosystem. This strategic move aims to empower businesses and communities with reliable, affordable connectivity, reinforcing Paratus’s long-term commitment to Africa’s digital future.

“Connectivity is the backbone of economic growth. Launching Namibia’s first private mobile network is a deliberate step in our mission to transform Africa’s digital landscape. By offering transparent, affordable services, we’re removing barriers and empowering more people to participate in the digital economy,” said Schalk Erasmus, CEO of Paratus Group.

He added that this initiative embodies Paratus’s core ethos of purpose-driven growth and innovation, with every investment designed to address real challenges and unlock new opportunities.

Erasmus highlighted that the new mobile service delivers affordable, transparent data and voice packages, including VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and the fastest digital activation in Namibia. The ecosystem combines advanced LTE and 5G networks, alongside fibre and Sky-Fi wireless solutions, offering integrated connectivity for homes, businesses, and mobile users. Paratus’s comprehensive approach signifies a shift from being solely a connectivity provider to a full digital lifestyle enabler.
