T2mobile signs multi-million dollar deal to modernise Nigerian network

09 September 2025

Nigerian telecoms operator T2mobile, formerly known as 9mobile, has entered into a multi-million dollar agreement with Indian technology firm Knot Solutions. The partnership aims to upgrade T2mobile’s core network, enhancing both the speed and reliability of its services nationwide.

“This partnership is an important step in our transformation plan. We strongly believe in the long-term growth of the Nigerian market and the increasing demand for faster, smarter, and more intuitive digital services,” said Obafemi Banigbe, CEO of T2mobile.

As part of the deal, Knot Solutions will implement a new system that will enable T2mobile to introduce real-time billing, offer hyper-personalized data plans, and launch self-service applications, giving subscribers greater control over their services.

This move is a key element of T2mobile’s recovery strategy following its acquisition by Lighthouse Telecoms in 2023. The Nigerian market, with nearly 170 million subscribers, remains highly competitive, dominated by major players such as MTN, Globacom, and Airtel. To regain and expand its market share, T2mobile continues to address its structural challenges, including recurring outages, limited coverage, and lower service quality compared to its rivals.

The partnership with Knot Solutions follows a recent agreement with Huawei aimed at modernizing the network infrastructure. That collaboration seeks to expand coverage, boost data speeds, and enhance overall service reliability. By forging these strategic alliances, T2mobile hopes to retain current subscribers and win back those lost in recent years. The investments also open opportunities for diversification into areas like online education, entertainment, and financial services, which could help reposition the operator in Nigeria’s competitive telecom landscape and allow it to better challenge industry leaders.
