Built on Azure Databricks and secured with Microsoft Defender, EVA 3.0 now processes over 22 billion records daily, supports more than 800 analytical workflows, and integrates approximately 1,700 data streams. This advanced architecture enables MTN to achieve greater agility in data analysis, accelerate incident response times, and deliver more personalised services to its customers.
“With EVA 3.0, we analyse information faster, apply intelligence more effectively, and safeguard it with cutting-edge cloud security,” said Nikos Angelopoulos, Group Chief Information Officer of MTN.
He highlighted that this resilient platform supports responsible AI development, aligning with the company's commitment to innovation and customer-centricity.
This migration is a core component of a strategic partnership established in 2022 between MTN and Microsoft, managed through the internal Project Nephos and its Cloud Centre of Excellence. MTN’s teams have also demonstrated a strong focus on skills development, earning over 1,350 Azure certifications in 2025 — underscoring the company’s investment in building cloud expertise.
While initially deployed in South Africa, MTN envisions this cloud architecture as a blueprint for its other African markets. The overarching goal is to bolster operational performance and position MTN as a leading technology innovator across the continent, leveraging cloud technology to support digital transformation, enhance customer experience, and drive sustainable growth.
