Ethio Telecom to expand telemedicine services to 200 more hospitals

23 December 2025

Ethio Telecom has announced plans to extend its telemedicine and telehealth services to an additional 200 hospitals across Ethiopia.

This expansion aims to reduce healthcare costs for patients and foster the sharing of medical expertise among institutions.

Yohannes Getahun, Director of Enterprise Solutions at Ethio Telecom, emphasized the company’s vision of building a fully digital Ethiopia, with healthcare as a key focus. He stated that, “Ethio Telecom aims to develop a fully digital Ethiopia across all sectors, with a particular emphasis on improving healthcare services.”

This initiative aligns with the country's broader digital transformation agenda, seeking to enhance access to healthcare, improve service quality, and increase system efficiency — especially in rural and underserved communities. To support this goal, Ethio Telecom is bolstering its network infrastructure through the deployment of 4G and 5G technologies and expanding fixed broadband services.

In collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, the operator has already connected 67 reference hospitals to a centralized digital platform, enabling streamlined data sharing and management. For remote regions, over 1,000 solar battery systems have been installed to ensure continuous service and reliable transmission of health data.

These advancements facilitate secure exchange of medical information, laying the foundation for a more integrated and effective digital health ecosystem across Ethiopia.
